Giuseppe’s Corner began as a dream shared by brothers John and Michael Canepa—two New York natives with a passion for food, family, and the kind of no-compromise quality that defines a true Italian market along with John's wife and mother-in-law. In October 2023, they opened their doors in Angier, NC, with one mission: to bring authentic New York–style subs and premium Italian ingredients to their new Southern home.

The shop quickly earned a loyal following, known for its hearty sandwiches crafted with ingredients and bread imported straight from New York City. But it wasn’t just about serving up great subs. John and Michael wanted Giuseppe’s to be a place where customers could also find the staples of traditional Italian cooking—handpicked imports that made home-cooked meals feel like Sunday dinner in Brooklyn.

By November 2024, Giuseppe’s had outgrown its original space. The brothers seized the opportunity to move into the landmark corner spot previously occupied by Brick and Mortar Grille. The new location provided the perfect foundation to expand their vision—and to make room for the next chapter.

Enter Giuseppe’s Back Room—a speakeasy-style craft cocktail bar tucked away above the bustling Italian market and deli. Hidden behind an unassuming shelf of imported goods inside the shop, a secret staircase leads those “in the know” to the intimate, upstairs bar where expertly crafted cocktails meet the same commitment to quality and atmosphere as the subs downstairs.
